OK, Max speaking here....I will be posting excerpts from my book ENCOMIUM shortly (see an award winning piece below). Back in 2000, Massimo Abbruzzetti received a Editor's Choice Award was presented by poetry.com & the International Library of Poetry 2000 and signed off on by Howard Ely, Managing Editor. for the following piece entitled...CAN YOU STILL HEAR ME ?...
I clasped it tightly to my heart, glimpsed at your reflection. Shouting out my name in the darkness something strange. I dared not look...But I didn't come. Warned me not to stay, though I said I'd always be with you. You made me weak next to you...You promised to help. The harder they try, the more frighten I become. It's all there between the lines. Fires deeper than I've ever known, still my hands are cold. Why fight the pain when we can't even get a way...We show our feelings, yet they look beyond anyway. Our soul after all is only empty...always was. We've made mistakes both...Dont change. No place to hide and no point in running...Too late. Oh how I let us down...wait !...You don't understand...It's coming nearer...Quick take my hand. Don't leave me, even if you say you want to go. Losing control as I slip a way, as only one of us can remain. Set me free, because it's there again between the lines. So many times since I've longed to see you. ....Can you still hear me ?...
